Synopsis
Jewish prisoners at the Sobibor extermination camp secretly organize a coordinated revolt, killing several SS officers before staging a mass breakout through the camp's minefields and fences. Hundreds escape into the surrounding forests, though many are later recaptured or killed.
Historical Context
The Sobibor uprising of October 1943, led by Alexander Pechersky and Leon Feldhendler, was one of the few successful prisoner revolts at a Nazi extermination camp, prompting the Germans to close and raze the camp afterward. Roughly three hundred prisoners escaped, though only a fraction survived the war.
Historical Accuracy
Based on survivor testimony and historical accounts, the film is broadly faithful to the documented events of the uprising.
