Synopsis
A small team of Allied commandos is sent behind enemy lines on a Greek island to destroy a pair of massive German gun emplacements threatening a planned naval evacuation. The team must overcome betrayal, harsh terrain, and enemy patrols to complete the near-impossible mission.
Historical Context
The film's premise is fictional, though it draws inspiration from real Aegean commando raids and the strategic significance of the Dodecanese islands campaign in 1943.
Historical Accuracy
Based on Alistair MacLean's novel, the island of Navarone and its guns are entirely fictional inventions rather than a real historical operation.
