Synopsis
In the final weeks of the war, a battle-hardened tank commander and his weary crew push deep into Germany with a green replacement gunner aboard their Sherman tank named Fury. They face increasingly desperate and fanatical German resistance, including Hitler Youth conscripts and superior enemy armor. The film culminates in a last stand against overwhelming odds.
Historical Context
By spring 1945 Allied forces were advancing rapidly into Germany against a collapsing but still dangerous Wehrmacht, including hastily conscripted teenagers and elderly militia in the Volkssturm. American Sherman tanks were technologically outmatched by German Tiger tanks, a disparity central to the film's depiction of armored combat.
Historical Accuracy
The characters and central battle are fictional, though the film is praised for its accurate depiction of tank mechanics, crew dynamics, and the technological gap between American and German armor.
