Synopsis

This acclaimed miniseries follows Easy Company of the 101st Airborne Division from parachute training through the D-Day drop, Operation Market Garden, the Battle of the Bulge, and into the heart of collapsing Germany. Based on real soldiers' testimony, it portrays the bonds and losses forged in sustained combat.

Historical Context

Easy Company's documented campaign took them from the Normandy airborne assault through some of the war's fiercest fighting, including the siege of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge. The series drew directly on interviews with surviving veterans and Stephen Ambrose's history of the unit.

Historical Accuracy

Highly regarded for accuracy, drawing on veteran testimony, though some names and specific incidents are altered or combined for narrative clarity.

The Real Battle

The largest amphibious operation in history put Allied armies ashore on five beaches in Normandy, opening the campaign that would liberate Western Europe.

Airborne divisions landed behind the beaches overnight to secure flanks and causeways. Seaborne assaults hit Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword from first light; Omaha was very nearly held. By nightfall roughly 156,000 men were ashore, though few D-Day objectives inland had been taken.
